June will see not only the end of the financial year but six months since I have been the state manager for FBA QLD.  I have had a great time learning about the different businesses and industries and most importantly ‘what keeps you up at night’.  To finish this first half of the year we hosted the FBA QLD Conference at Moda Events, and I would like to thank all those who attended and our presenters and guests.

Key note, Shane Webcke provided an insight into the ups and downs of his football career and his business decisions.  Speaking honestly he shared that his family was important and losing his father at such a young age was tough.   It provided him with determination and a will never to give up, and to do things right.  Who would have tough that this footballer’s first representative team was the QLD Maroons for State of Origin, or that he was close to bankruptcy during his career.

The next six months of 2017 will be actioned packed with some new and innovative events including webinars and conversation series providing insights to what family businesses need to be aware of.  More information and a full 2017/18 QLD Calendar will be released at the end of July.

Help me get to know you and your business, if you have had any exciting news or received awards or good publicity share the love by sending it through, email fbaqld@fambiz.org.au.    If you know of any families in business don’t forget to tell them about FBA, or better yet bring them along to the next event.

Hint for the month: Say it in 30 seconds or don’t say it at all

Quote of the Month:

“I believe that dreams, taken seriously…are the most sophisticated things know to humanity… A great dream drives innovation – it doesn’t happen the other way around.  A great dream drives collaboration – it doesn’t happen the other way around.”

– Dan Pallotta, American entrepreneur, author and humanitarian activist

Hope this helps till next time
