Welcome to another great year ahead with FBA. For those of you who I am yet to meet or speak with I hope to soon, however feel free to drop me a line anytime. 2017 is Year of the Rooster, more specifically the Fire Rooster. It is said the Fire Rooster is “Trustworthy, with a strong sense of timekeeping and responsibility at work” – in line with this, perhaps it is time you joined one of our forum groups! If you’re not into Chinese Astrology, then think about this… It’s also the Year of Tourism! Therefore perhaps you’ll consider joining FBA at the National Conference on Hamilton Island in August. If that’s all just too much, then think about meeting me, and other QLD Family Businesses at a QLD networking event – the first is the Chairman’s Lunch coming up on March 17!

I am pleased to say I have hit the ground running in QLD as the new State Manager. We have over 20 activities confirmed on the QLD calendar with a few more exciting national initiatives planned to ensure we have the best year yet. A summary of the year to date can be downloaded here. For our advisers, the Adviser Connect calendar can be downloaded here. I urge you to mark your calendars so you do not miss out.

Key dates

February will be a busy start to the year for us all with an Adviser Connect breakfast, Family Business Essentials half day course and a Forum Information Breakfast, followed soon after by a Chairman’s Lunch in March. I know you are all looking forward to catching up with each other, and meeting me so I encourage you to register now for one of these events so not to be disappointed.

Talking about each other, have you ever wondered how other leaders run their family business or if they are having the same “issues” as you, well it might be time you looked into Forum Groups (and it’s the year of the Fire Rooster). FBA will be holding a Forum Information Breakfast later this month to give members an insight into the groups, and experiences gained by the members. Feel free to give me a call and I can tell you all about it. Our forum groups are the only professionally facilitated, executive discussion groups for family business leaders, executives and CEOs in Australia. To register click here.

Looking back for a moment in December the newly formed QLD FBA Committee met for the first time. We will be meeting quarterly in 2017 and will be working toward greater communication from the state based office and on a new business strategy to keep FBA relevant and on point in today’s changing business world. The new committee can be found here.

Help me get to know you and your business, if you have had any exciting news or received awards or good publicity share the love by sending it through, email fbaqld@fambiz.org.au.

Hint for the month:
Look into booking your flight to Hamilton Island for the National Conference. Currently $109 one way from Brisbane.

Quote of the Month:
You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else – Albert Einstein

Hope this helps, til next time
