Have you ever dreamt about bringing your own business venture to life? Two Sydneysiders had an idea born from the love of music and not wanting to go home after a great night out. The vision was named ‘The Boogie Woogie Beach House (BWBH)’.

Co-owner Stephen Doessel, 46 and Business Partner David Craig, 37 put their love, blood, sweat and tears into creating the business. The end result was a holiday destination which combines eccentric rooms, live music and food fit for a King (or Queen).

The boutique hotel is situated inside a historic building, located in the New South Wales mid north coastal town of Old Bar.
The building is over 100 years old and was initially a home built by Fred Richardson in 1908. The beach shack’s wooden exterior and interior became a costly roadblock when the owners realised that only a couple of insurers like to insure such buildings. Hence GSA’s opportunity to get their hands dirty and show how we broke.

Stephen and David continue to praise GSA for achieving pleasing results on their program as it allowed The Boogie Woogie Beach House to be the dream they had hoped for.

The BWBH is a polar opposite to what you would expect from a seaside ‘bed and breakfast’. The holiday destination is described as a ‘unique, hip, luxurious and cleaned-lined, with odd touches of vintage’.

The five unique guest rooms have quintessential decorations which have been styled to praise the wonders of art and music. The hotel is adorned with books, bespoke artworks and hand-painted song lyrics. Doessel recounts that guests cry and gush when they view the bathroom tiled with the massive face of their hero.

Guests and visitors can eat onsite at Flow Bar. Chef Dave Clifton has over twenty years’ experience in Sydney’s world class dining scene. Dave spent time working in a variety of hatted, iconic Sydney restaurants such as Hugo’s Bondi, the Bondi Trattoria and Deviate Restaurant. He’s cooked for the likes of Laurence Fishburne, Leo Sayer, Nicole Kidman, Kylie Minogue, Kanye West and Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The keen surfer recently moved his family to Wallibi Point to start their new life, in their dream home by the beach. Dave has been busy meeting local suppliers, sourcing fresh produce and further developing the menu. Inspired by the season, the ocean and local produce you can expect a well-balanced and lighter menu with hints of chilli and acidity.

The BWBH has hosted special priced events which have sold out. Notable acts include Diesel, The Audreys, Mick Thomas, Celibate Rifles and Tex Perkins. Still looking for something more? You can book your own private room with a veranda overlooking the stage.

The Boogie Woogie Beach House has welcomed guests for short getaways, destination celebrations, weddings, local workshops, retreats or business meetings and trips.

The standout venue won three big awards in 2016:

  • Best New Start Up – Manning Valley Business Awards
  • Gold for the Best Standard Accommodation – Legendary Pacific Coast Tourism Awards
  • Silver for the Best Standard Accommodation – NSW Tourism Awards

Add it to your ‘must visit’ list and check out the local and touring bands and musicians.

GSA is proud to be the Insurance Broker for The Boogie Woogie Beach House.
