Comparing apples, oranges and pears!

As we get ready to reveal our 2016 Hall of Fame inductees and to come together to recognise and celebrate their achievements I have paused to reflect the diversity of our recipients, both past and present.

Previous WA Hall of Fame inductees include The Kailis Group, The Betts Group, Lionel Samson Sadleir Group, Freedom Pools and Spas, Leeuwin Estate, Dawsons Garden World and Galvin Engineering.  Each of the businesses inducted into the Hall of Fame are assessed by a panel of their peers against the same criteria, finding them worthy of joining this prestigious group of family businesses.
However, how do you compare businesses of different sizes, generation and industries (apples, oranges and pears) that make up the wonderfully diverse family business sector? The purpose of the Hall of Fame is to celebrate and recognise the achievements of family owned Australian businesses who contribute positively to our community, economy and culture, therefore business size, turnover or maturity becomes less relevant. Allowing us to embrace the diversity of the sector; creating an even playing field for both small and large businesses to be inducted into the Family Business Australia Hall of Fame.

While I can’t reveal which businesses will be joining the FBA Hall of Fame, I can say that each of our inductees has a unique story, they have demonstrated success in the face of adversity, sustainability, growth, innovation and strong family values that have driven their business.

To find out more about their stories, come and be part of an amazing evening of celebration and inspiration at the Hall of Fame Dinner on Thursday the 24th of November.

I do hope you will join us for an evening of conversation, inspiration and celebration as we not only welcome our 2016 inductees but also hear from our guest speaker, Dr Ros Worthington on ‘The Power of Giving – Philanthropy at its best”.  Dr Worthington has been a highly successful entrepreneur as the driving force behind well-known charities such as the Make a Wish Foundation, Breast Cancer Care WA and many others.

This will be our final event for 2016, please take the opportunity to come together with your fellow family business community members.
