I am bursting with excitement! It’s time to let everyone know that the State Conference has been locked into place and it’s going to be amazing. Put Friday 8th May in your calendars now – it will be a very full day (yes, we’re starting earlier and finishing later) of information, resources and professional development opportunities that will leave you with a tangible list of processes to be applied in your family business. The workshop will provide an interactive and informative environment enabling you to leverage some of your greatest assets; your values and vision.

The best way to get maximum value will be to bring along a family member from another generation. I promise you’ll leave feeling exhilarated, a little tired perhaps, and itching to get back to your business to try out the ideas and processes discussed.

FBA is proud to recognise adviser member John Broon who has just completed international accreditation with FFI (Family Firm Institute), the North American Peak Body for family business advisers. Having advisers of this international calibre and standing adds much to FBA’s expertise resource. FBA Adviser groups around the country all have FFI members so family businesses everywhere can tap into this world class expertise.

Speaking of advisers, Judy Choate of Piper Alderman is one of three finalists for the Tax Institute of Australia Chartered Tax Adviser of the year. She is up against two blokes, one from the ATO, so the competition is stiff. Good luck on the night, Judy!

Scott Hamilton has just been made the Director and Head of Markets at The SILC Group providing a range of financial risk management, strategic, economic and advisory services to our corporate, commercial and institutional clients. You may not know Scott but you might have heard him on the ABC. Scott has extensive knowledge of Asian markets, so if you’re doing business internationally catch Scott at the next FBA event.

Your HR Matters is a fortnightly blog on all those little details that are really boring until they are really important. Steve Rogers from Rusher Rogers can point to many situations where the outcomes would have been dramatically different had the family businesses had more information or better processes to manage the issue.

Finally, Alltel is a FBA member that trades in the business telecommunications area. They have offered a deal for FBA members which you can investigate further at this link.

I look forward to seeing you soon.
