This will be my last web post to you all, as I am stepping down as the FBA SA/NT State Manager. I’ve been offered an exciting new role in the retirement industry starting in May. I do feel a little sad as I’ve met some wonderful people over the last couple of years and I’ve certainly learnt so much about the challenges that family businesses face no matter what size their business is. I am thankful to the state committee members for their enthusiasm, commitment, support and most importantly the time they put in to making FBA a wonderful organisation, I wish you all the very best for 2015 I do hope our paths may cross again.

If you haven’t already got it in your calendars, make sure you mark the 13th May for The Great Debate. The evening will provide the opportunity to hear the pros and cons of strongly differing views about who can own shares in the family business and why. It will be an important discussion of the two divergent and strongly-held views.

The University of Adelaide is running an e-Challenge ‘Making Ideas Fly’ which is an entrepreneurial competition based on the development and submission of a strategic business plan for an early stage venture. Open to teams of two to six people to develop a business plan for a new, previously unfunded concept. At least one member must be a current tertiary student.

Recently it was announced that Edwina Pearce owner of  South Australian family business, Nature’s Quest won the Women in Business Award at the 2014 My Business Awards. Click here to read the full article.

Edwina encourages all SME business owners to enter the 2015 My Business Awards saying she found the process of filling out the entry form useful as she had to ask questions about her own business that may sometimes be overlooked and could be improved on. She said it assisted her in setting some useful targets without even realizing, as the process requires you to critique yourself and your business, highlighting what you can do better.

Details regarding the 2015 My Business Awards can be found here

All the best,
