Welcome to 2017, we start the New Year with a number of new events for our members, kicking off on February 21st with an Adviser Connect breakfast with presentations provided by Andrew Reed from Hender Consulting and Sarah Leo from Openbook Howden. An event for both advisers and family business members we will open up discussion about recruitment of personnel within the family business sector. Click here for more information.

Following on from a successful event last year, FBA SA will again join forces with the Small Business Commission and present Family Business Essentials both in Gawler (Tuesday, April 11 and Victor Harbor Tuesday 20, June)  further information regarding these events will be available in upcoming weeks.

South Australia has also launched its own Facebook page – you can find it here . This provides FBA with the opportunity to promote family business events and opportunities at a state level and I encourage you to like the page and ensure you become active in the group posts and news items. As part of the launch, you could win a FBA SA State Conference Registration in our first ever Facebook competition! Like us and post a picture of your family or family business workplace and tag us at @fambizsa for your chance to win. The winner will be drawn at the end of February.

Back in December, the newly formed SA FBA Committee met for the first time, the South Australian committee meetings are scheduled just prior to the FBA National Board meetings. We will be working toward greater communication from the state based offices and feeding relevant and important information both ways to ensure consistency in messaging and keeping you our members up to date on issues affecting the industry. The new committee can be found here.

A big thank you to Corrina Wright from Oliver’s Taranga Vineyards who recently stepped down from the SA Committee, Corrina represented the family business wine sector as a sixth generation operator and provided insight and support to a number of the SA FBA activities. You can learn more about her business here.

Until next time,
Yvonne McClaren
